Some things in life never seem to change. When you have children, the list is long.
I know you all have experienced some of these, and every day I think of more, but here are just a few of my favorites:
- A teenager will never empty the dishwasher without being asked to … unless they want something. If you come home and it is empty, be very suspicious.
- Your child will always say he doesn’t have any homework if there’s something more fun going on.
- Your child will always remember he has homework five minutes before bedtime.
- Little boys never need baths, in their opinion.
- Girls always need more clothes (and shoes!), in their opinion.
- “Everybody else” always has cooler stuff than your kids.
And last, but not least, there are some things that kids and husbands will always pretend not to notice. These include:
- Mom going back and forth across the house carrying laundry.
- A doodle the puppy has made in the middle of the hallway. They may hold their noses as they jump over it, but ask them if they cleaned it up and you’ll get an innocent, “What mess?”
- An empty toilet paper roll. They might get out a new roll, but it will sit on the floor until it, too, is gone. It is one of the strange facts of life that only moms know how to put it back on the holder.
- Ditto for the paper towels in the kitchen.
- The occasional dead bug. I left a dead roach sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor just to see how long it would take someone to pick it up. It. Never. Happened.
So moms, when you are at wit’s end, just refer back to this list and realize you have lots of company!
